So, how'd you two meet?

I'm combining a few more questions from Ask Me Anything since they sortof relate to each other!

How did you meet Martjin?

I just started reading your blog recently so apologies if you've covered this, but how did you get to be a transplant?

Did you want to live in another country or did it just kind of happen?

I would also like to know the story of you and Martjin?

If you would've told me 10 years ago that I'd be married and living in The Netherlands I probably would've told you to lay off the drugs because they were making you nuts. Leaving the country was never even on my radar. I thought it would be fun to go to Europe and see some of the places my dad told me about but move here? No way!

Love makes you do crazy things, doesn't it?

I met Martijn on IRC (internet relay chat) sometime in 2002. I can't remember exactly when because I wasn't really on the lookout for anyone, ESPECIALLY someone that lived on the other side of the world. Over the course of the next few months I started realizing that he was a rather decent fellow and apparently he thought I was okay too! We visited back and forth from 2003-2006 and decided that it was getting WAY too hard to say goodbye to each other at the end of our visits.

The rest, as they say, is history!

The end of December will mark our third anniversary and I'm looking forward to many many more.

Thanks for sharing! I think you're quite strong because I don't know how I could handle living so far from my family and trying to learn that very complicated language!

I could handle Italy, France, UK...but the netherlands not so sure! It's so foreign! ;)

What a beautiful picture of you two! And a great love story, so sweet! I also met my other half online, although I was already living in the UK. So the back and forth to Holland thing wasn't too bad, however it was still so hard saying goodbye to one another. That's why he up and immigrated here to the UK to live with me and well, as you said the rest is history! We'd love to live over in Holland one day though, his family being there and I love the country. The timing just isn't quite right yet....*sigh* x

Oh that is the cutest wedding picture EVER! Love your dress...

...and to answer the question you raised on MY blog...no, nothing wrong with internet relationships. Weird how I, at least, tend to over rationalize how my Dutchie and I met to people who you suspect wouldn't "get it". I always stress that it was a MUSIC forum, that he was just a nice guy who sent me mp3 files of songs I couldn't find (legally) in Canada, blablabla...

One old friend of mine didn't even understand why people join internet forums (for whatever reason) in the first place. Not sure if it's a problem with my generation though (ie, those over the age of 40)...maybe it's easier for you and Martijn?

How cute are the two of you! :) I met my husband in 1991 on the net...the pre-cursor to the modern internet. It's hard to explain but he and I have basically been together since early 1992. You are NOT alone. :)

I don't think I've ever seen a picture of when you guys got married. You look gorgeous-and of course-so happy! I love that picture. It was fun to read the story of how you met (even though I'd heard about it before). Happy (almost) Anniversary!
