Month of Monkeys: All Done Day 31!

Well I can't believe I actually managed to pull it off! I made a monkey 29 of 31 days (Today and Grandpa Monkey day being the 2 non monkey making days). I still have a lot of socks left though so this won't be the last bunch of monkeys you see!

This monkey looks a little Mr. Jummy-esque, just in a different color.

Month of Monkeys: Day 27

It's about 90 degrees here today. The irony of a monkey covered in snowflakes is not lost on me.

Month of Monkeys: Day 26

When I started sewing this monkey I said "This is going to turn out awesome or terrible." I was wrong. It's TERRIBLY AWESOME! I can't decide if this one needs a poking out tongue or not. Martijn thinks he's pretty funky as is, but I think he's sorta crazy looking and might benefit from a silly tongue!

Month of Monkeys: Day 25

This is a baby knee sock so it has a wee little body and long gangly legs. It makes me giggle a little.

Month of Monkeys: Day 23

Okay, today I am cheating a little bit. It is 95 billionty degrees outside and I spent my monkey sewing time unearthing the airco and getting it set up. Instead I am going to show you something else rather special! This is a sock monkey that my mom's grandmother made in the late 1950s for the grandkids to play with when they visited her. He was in really rough shape when he resurfaced from storage. He was filthy and full of holes. My mom said she thought he probably had kittens born on him at some point in his life and it looked to me like a mouse decided to eat part of his shirt. She gave him a bath and repaired him and I think he looks brilliant. I decided he needed to be called Grandpa Monkey. I love his sculpted face! And it's proof positive that monkey making is in my blood!

I think maybe this one needs some big floppy red shoes to match his red nose.

Month of Monkeys: Day 21

This little guys name is Dumbo. You probably don't need to use too much imagination to figure out why.

Month of Monkeys: Day 20

This poor little monkey has had a hard life. Something happened in the process of being made and shoved in the cupboard for a few months that resulted in random holes and cuts in places. I don't remember if I knew about it and that's why it got shoved in the cupboard or if Mr Jummy started snacking on it in his spare time but I had to get really good at monkey suturing to keep this one's guts from falling out.

Month of Monkeys: Day 19

I have come to realize that I really have a LOT of argyles in my stash! This little fellow is also showing off our cute "new to us" deco clock!

Month of Monkeys: Day 18

This poor little monkey was very plain aside from the pink head and nose... so I decided to make it some clothes. After that experience I don't know how many more of my monkeys will be dressed. They are a bit oddly shaped and devious to make clothes for!

I present to you Mr Gangly. He has silly long arms and legs! Moreso than many of my other knee-sock monkeys.

Month of Monkeys: Day 6

As I was sewing this monkey together I wasn't really in love with it. That might be because sewing black on black is hard to see and it was making me have a headache but it was just turning out a little SAD. I mean black with gray hearts?? So when I finished sewing on the limbs and face I thought I could embroider a colored heart to spiff things up. Then I added some nice fun bright buttons for eyes and a smile and I think it turned out rather okay.

Month of Monkeys: Day 4

One thing about living here in The Netherlands is that I totally blank on holidays like the 4th because I never actually celebrate it ON the day. So if I'd realized I would've made an awesome patriotic monkey. I didn't realize though, so I will have to save my patriotism for another day. Today we have Mr Red Argyle.

I know I've been gone for awhile, so I thought I'd ease my way back into blogging with a Month of Monkeys! Here's day 1- a little red and white baby monkey.
