Hulling Strawberries With a STRAW!

I stole this tip from Alea over at Premeditated Leftovers, but it's really too nifty to not pass along again.

I'm not terribly handy with a knife. If I can avoid using one, I probably will. It keeps the chances of me keeping all of my fingers higher too! So when I read that you can hull strawberries with a STRAW I couldn't wait to try! And guess what? It works like a charm.

Hulling strawberries with a... STRAW!

You just push the straw in at the bottom of the strawberry and the stem and white bit just pop right out. This made my jam making go oh so much faster. Hop on over to Premeditated Leftovers to read her jam canning instructions. I just did freezer jam because it only takes 5 minutes to mash everything together and put in cups. Canning jam takes more dedication (and mason jars) than I had at the time.

Be sure to check out all of the great posts linked to Kitchen Tip Tuesdays, hosted by Tammy.

Holy cow, that's brilliant! I wonder if it would work for cherries, too.

I was JUST doing strawberries this morning for a smoothie and thought what a right pain in the arse this is! What a coincidence! haha

I'll have to try this!

I have used this also and it is really slick. I had forgotten about it, so thanks for reminding me!

The best part is getting to bite the little 'stem' from the green stem after each hulling. That would keep me from sneaking a whole strawberry or two (or hundred) while I was making jam!

Thanks and have a wonderful day.

Oh my, that is REALLY cool. Whoever thought that up should be awarded some huge prize - - - like the Nobel Peace Prize or something!

How funny!! I hadn't read any kitchen tips when I did my post this morning, and last week when we were making strawberry jam I was doing the same thing and thought, what a great kitchen tip!!! My girls love this way, so do I! I also added another gadget to my favorite strawberry stemming tool. Go check it out.
